Hi, I’m Daniel Roelfs.
I’m currently working as a Data Scientist within AI-driven fraud detection at the Analytics & AI Centre of Excellence team in Storebrand, a Norwegian insurance company and financial institution. Previously I had a similar role in the anti-money laundering at the Norwegian bank DNB. I have a PhD from the University of Oslo, where I worked in a project on computational neuroscience at the Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT) in Oslo. My doctoral research focused on the intersection between neuroimaging and genetics to discover more about the human brain and the biology underlying psychiatric disorders.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, I have also studied in France and Sweden before moving to Norway. In my free time I run, ski, hike, and take photos. This blog serves as a way to share some of the code I write in R and Python for personal and professional interests.
If you have any questions or comments about the tutorials and posts here, or just want to get in touch, please send me an e-mail at this address.
This website is created by me using the Hugo framework with my own custom template that I called Narvik adapting some principles laid out by Edward Tufte. CI/CD is handled through GitHub Actions. The website is hosted through Cloudflare. Analytics are handled through a self-hosted instance of (the privacy-friendly) Umami, storing data in a local MySQL database. The main content is written in Quarto where all documents are configured to render the notebooks to a Markdown flavour compatible with Hugo.
